More Poet's Corner

As the games wear on and ‘powndium’ hopes fade
I cheer none the softer for Hughes and for Guay

But national pride doesn’t fuel me alone
As I watch hour upon hour, “Go, Canada, Go!”

From deep in my belly, below Guinness and chips
(Perhaps somewhere between my spleen and my hips?)

Comes a second fire-y glow, unrelated to the first
It need not be charged, it need not be nursed

And it rages with the strength of 10,000 Langes,
A thousand Americans, a quite a few Wangs!

“Go, Lee, Go” I scream aloud like a fool
As he charges past Hamelin around Corner 2

Shameful, I know, but such is the game
With bucks on the line, and what’s more, shame

Do I leap off the couch or cower and hide?
As I stand here split between points and pride
